Nicholas Sleep and Qais Zakaria are two names you have probably never heard of. They were the two investors behind the revered investment fund Nomad Investment Partnership which was shut down in 2014. They were underground investors who produced a fabulous track record however their story could not be studied if it weren’t for the subsequent release of the letters written to the fund’s investors over their journey whilst running the fund. I have seen these letters being described as the investment equivalent of the Dead Sea Scrolls.
This podcast hits on the high points of their rhetoric, of which their north star is the principle of quality in everything they do, not just limited to finding companies of a high quality to invest in. In addition, the business model concept of ‘scale economies shared’ is discussed. They saw this business model as a competitive moat that continually compounds over time. As is the case with many of the great long-term investors, their success was built on the back of a few key investments, namely Amazon, Costco and Berkshire Hathaway. It is hard to find companies that fit the ‘scale economies shared’ more than these 3 do.
Personally, I find any information available to consume from the brains of Sleep & Zakaria incredibly valuable. Should you like this podcast and want to learn more, then with a quick Google search you will find the Nomad Investment Partnership letters can be downloaded at no cost.
